[OPEN] Split Trip
[Carter's been ghosting around the ship, having a pretty chillaxed time spending some time alone for the first in his life. He's wearing sandals and they make a slip-slop sound as he pads down the hallway.
Behind him, his shadow snickers.
Carter blinks and looks over his shoulder. Was that a laugh? No? Huh. He carries on. He presses the button for the elevator and waits, and it seems to take forever. Whatever, the deck he wants is just one down. Carter turns and pads over to the stairs.
His shadow creeps up his leg. Carter doesn't notice.
He opens the door to the stairwell and just as he's stepping out, Carter's shadow yanks on his ankle. ]
AUUUUGHHHHH!!!!
[Carter screams as he tumbles down the stairwell. His shadow laughs loudly and retreats back to its form under him as Carter cracks his head and leg on the metal corners. Thunks, whacks, bumps, all of these disorient Carter as he falls head over heels down the staircase--and lands in a heap at the bottom.]
Awwwwwuhhh, Jesus.
[Carter holds up his arm and gasps. Bone is bulging the skin out. He broke his arm. Carter winces and hunches over his broken arm, waiting for it to heal. His head throbs.
Who runs into him?]

Curious, he moves a little quicker up the stairs before he spots Carter on the ground and injured no less. Most people would be horrified by the sight in front of them, but San wasn't even phased. So, he steps over and crouches down beside the 'healer'. His eyes were no longer blue.]
It seems you took quite a fall. [He chuckles slightly before reaching over to touch his arm, applying his own healing ability. Except his came with a bit of a burn.] Missed a step?

[The sound of--well, to her ears it sounded like someone tossing a bag of laundry down the stairs--had Tammy ducking down instinctively before scrambling to catch up to San's longer-legged stride. As San crouches she moves around him, taking one look at the sight of Carter--more of Carter than she'd thought she'd ever see, more of Carter than should be seen--and claps a hand over her mouth. Takes a deep breath as she hunkers down, nearby but not touching either of them.]
That looks less like missing a step and more like gravity taking out a hit on you.
sorry I took so long! o7
He's speechless as Sandrath reaches over to touch Carter's broken arm and then when the fallen angel makes contact, Carter yelps. It burns! It hurts! Carter tries to yank his arm away and scramble backwards, away from San. He doesn't get far. He moves back about three feet before hitting the wall. Carter cradles his half-broken, half-healed arm against his belly and curls his knee over it.
He doesn't know what made Sandrath turn on him, but he knows the drill when an older man is beating on you. Form a ball and wait.]
Hey! Hey, stop! No! Fffff-fuck off!
[He looks over to the girl--hasn't he seen her before? But she's not afraid. Thank God, Carter thinks, a witness generally stops an attack. He latches onto her comment like a lifeline.]
Yes! Hah! Ha-ha!
[Carter barks out an awkward laugh and his eyes slide to Sandrath, then away. His trust in the angel is shattered by the pain without warning.]
that's all right!
Why are you squirming? I'm trying to help you, Carter. [He reassures in a rather calm tone, remaining crouched. Then he realizes that he used an unusual ability without saying a word.] ...What you just experienced was my healing ability.
no worries!
Still, his reaction is too pronounced, and the wide, round circle of his eyes and the way he can't look at San raises her instinctive alarm bells.]
But it's only for a second. Then you'll be symmetrical again.

[Carter waves his hand in a dismissive gesture, which is unfortunate because he unconsciously used his broken arm. His hand is at an obtuse angle to his wrist thanks to the break and once Carter sees this he blanches. ]
Oh, Jesus.
[He tucks the healing arm back against his stomach and curls over it protectively, glancing between the two. They seem to know each other.]
It's... supposed to burn?
[Let his tone communicate just how crazy Carter finds the ideal of a healing magic that hurts.]

[But he doesn't reach out to touch Carter again unless he's okay with it. Instead, he blinks and shakes his head a little, trying to ignore the aura that was coming off of the healer.]
...Yes. There is a reason why it burns like that, so you know that it is working. Unless you like watching your injuries fix themselves.

That looked like a pretty bad break. Mind if I take a look? I promise we won't hurt you. We don't want to hurt you.
